Why is there lots of foam in my dishwasher?

Foam overflows through the dishwasher door seal during the cycle. The dishwasher stops during the cycle and this is because the foam cut out or overfill has been activated. There is foam remaining in the dishwasher at the completion of the cycle.
Cause & Prevention
Cause: Oversudsing can be caused be the use of laundry detergent or handwash detergent instead of the automatic dishwashing detergent.
Prevention: Ensure that the correct detergent has been used, Try Finish or Fairy.
Cause: Spilling excessive rinse aid when filing the rinse aid dispenser.
Prevention: Take care when filling the rinse aid dispenser.
Cause: A high level of soil containing protein, eg egg, can also cause foaming.
Prevention: Remove excess food from the dishes.
Cause: Using detergent with rinse aid built in and putting rinse aid in the dispenser.
Prevention: If using detergent with rinse aid built in don’t put any rinse aid in the dispenser.
Treatment: Switch off the dishwasher as soon as you notice excessive foaming. Allow the foam to settle for about 1 hour, empty the dishwasher and then perform a rinse and hold cycle to remove the suds.
Why dosen’t my dishwasher remove tea or coffee stains from the cups?

Appearance
Tea or coffee stains usually appear as brown rings, either in the cup or in the saucer.
Causes & Prevention
Cause: Using a poor quality detergent which does not contain good quality cleaning ingredients.
Prevention: Use a good quality detergent like Finish or Fairy.
Cause: Washing in hard water which reduces the efficiency of the bleach.
Prevention: Ensure you use salt to soften the water.
Cause: Allowing the cup to stand for a long time before it is washed in the dishwasher.
Prevention: Rinse the cups before placing then in the dishwasher.
Treatment: Wash brown tea or coffee stained cups on the hottest wash cycle with a good quality detergent like Finish or Fairy. In extreme cases wash the cups in a dilute solution of chlorine based sterilizing solution, such as milton. Rinse the cup well before use.

Causes & Prevention
Causes: Spots can be caused by detergent residues from dissolveing detergents.
Prevention: Use fast dissolving detergent like Finish or Fairy Active Bursts.
Cause: spots may be caused by water drops drying on the dishes.
Prevention: Use of rinse aid helps the water slide off the dishes better, preventing water drops and spotting.
Treatment: Use a fast dissolving detergent to ensure no detergent residues are carried over the final rinse. Use a rinse aid.
Why do my plastic containers come out of my dishwasher pink or orange?

Appearance
Plastic items and plastic parts of the dishwasher become orange - pink.
Causes & Preventions
Cause: Colour pigments (usually red) founds in such foods such as tomatoes, baked beans, spaghetti and curries can be absorbed onto plastic surfaces durling the wash.
Prevention: where possible remove excess food from the dishes before loading the dishwasher and don’t store excess red foods in plastic containers.
Treatment: The discoloration cannot be removed as it has been absorbed by the plastic. The best treatment is to allow the plastic item to stand in sunlight which will bleach the plastic back to its original colour.

Food residues left in pans and dishes. Residues adhering to the surface rather than being baked on.
Cause and prevention
Cause: Incorrect loading of the items in the dishwasher which prevent the items being cleaned thoroughly. The spray arm is unable to rotate due to an obstruction, blocked spray arm or too mild a cycle.
Prevention: Carefully load the dishwasher to ensure that all the items recieve water from the spray arm and that there are no obstructions preventing rotation of the spray arm.
Cause: Use of a poor quality detergent.
Prevention: Use a good quality detergent, Such as Finish or Fairy.
Treatment: Check the dishwasher is clean and free from any obstructions which would prevent it from cleaning. Use a dishwasher machine cleaner to remove old dirt from inside the dishwasher to prevent it from being deposited back onto the dishes. Rewash the items with a quality dishwasher detergent, Such as Finish or Fairy.

Appearance
Very small brown circles or a small pit on the surface. in more severe cases rust marks are often streaks of brown which follows lines of imperfection in the steel.
Causes & Preventions
Cause: Rusting is normally seen in areas of imperfection of the steel.
Prevention: Purchase good quality Dishwasher safe stainless steel. Removal of the cutlery early in the drying cycle will minimise the risk of rusting.
Cause: Salt and acid present in the food or by spillage when filling the salt or rinse aid containers can contribute to the formation of rust.
Prevention: Rinse any excess food or salt from the tableware. Remove any spillage of salt or rinse aid and hold cycle with an empty dishwasher.
Cause: Allowing stainless steel to touch silver items can cause rusting.
Prevention: Do not mix stainless steel and silver in the dishwasher.
Treatment: Polishing with a metal polish will improve the appearance of slightly rusted items. Heavily rusted items are beyond repair.

White spots or an overall white film are left on the glasses after the wash
Causes & Preventions
Cause: White spots and films are usually deposits caused by hard water. This can be due to failling to use or not enough salt in hard water areas.
Prevention: Always use salt in hard water areas.
Cause: overdosing rinse aid can leave a freasy film on glassware.
Prevention: Always add the recommended dosage of detergent & rinse aid for hard water areas and select specialist glass care cycles.
Treatment: A rewash may clean the dishes or alternately a wipe with vinegar or lemon juce may restore them. Rinse well with clean water.
