Vent Hoses For Tumble Dryer
Posted by admin in Tumble Dryer Spares & Repairs News on October 18th, 2009
The advantages of a tumble dryer are that your clothes are ready to wear again in the minium time after washing
The draw back however is the cost and that dryer machines may cause clothes to shrink, become less soft (due to loss of short soft fibers/ lint) and fade.
Safety in tumble dryers
Remember that drying your clothes in a tumble dryer expose flammable materials to heat.
Clean the filter after every cycle for safety and energy efficiency.
Provide adequate ventilation around the dryer.
Do not place any rubber, foam and plastic items in the dryer — or anything that has had a flammable substance spilled on it.
Either D I Y or have your dryer and vent duct cleaned professionally at a minimum of every two years.
Dryer Balls

The pink and blue dryerballs mechanical softeners have different tensile strengths and different shaped softening nodes. They work together in the tumble dryer to mechanically to soften fabrics without the harmful chemicals found in fabric softener and dryer sheets. The dryerballs lift and separate the laundry whilst drying, thus reducing drying time and creasing. The dryerballs softeners also retain the heat and transfer it to the clothes as they tumble, further speeding up the drying process.
There is no need to add a chemically laden “softening” dryer sheet or use fabric softener in your wash. Place both dryerballs softeners in the tumble dryer and operate the machine at the usual heatsetting for the fabrics. dryerballs mechanical softeners are re-usable just leave them
in the tumble dryer to get the benefits time and time again!

Whirlpool tumble dryer filter has a hole in it.
Engineers repair comments.
I opened the tumble dryer door, removed and then replaced the Whirlpool tumble dryer filter. The mesh on the old fluff filter was split and damaged which allowed fluff and dust particals to be drawn through the tumble dryer and on the clothes instead of catching it in the Whirlpool tumble dryer filter.
Hotpoint Tumble Dryer Belt

Hotpoint tumble dryer drive belts.
Hotpoint have changed the design of all the tumble dryer drive belts, they used to have a tension pulley system ( see image on right ) but there are no tension pulley systems any longer, Hotpoint in their wisdom have decided to change all their tumble dryer belts now using a fixed elasticated drive belt. In our opinion this is a big step backwards for Hotpoint as on this new fixed belt system there is a lot of stress on the rear bearing, drum and drum shaft, drive belt, front drum bearings & both drum felts. We replace a lot of belts because of this. If you are changing a Hotpoint tumble dryer drive belt you will find it very difficult if not impossible to stretch the drive belt over the drum & motor shaft, it is possible but as i say very very difficult, i try to loosen the motor screw from the base of the Hotpoint tumble dryer then stretch it using a special tool over the Hotpoint tumble dryer motor. Good luck.

Does my Hotpoint tumble dryer need spares or any Hotpoint tumble dryer spare parts
On vistiting the Hotpoint TC71 dryer i had to determine if the Hotpoint tumble dryer needed spares or spare parts. I set the cycle running, the machine started all seemed fine so i let it run for 2 mins then opened the hotpoint tumble dryer door to see if it was hot, But the temperature inside the tumble dryer drum was cold. i unpluged the Hotpoint tumble dryer then using my multi meter i tested the heater heating element, that tested ok, i then tested the two thermostats on top of the heating element casing, one of them had no circuit through it, i had found the problem. i removed the old thermostats and replaced them with a new Hotpoint tumble dryer thermostat kit 1701583 ( shown in image ) tested the tumble dryer and all tested ok, problem solved.
Tumble Dryer Heater Element

One of the most common faults with tumble dryers are:
No Heat
This is normally due to failure of the heating element/s or thermostat/s with the thermostats being the more prone to failure
Cause’s of the above to fail more frequently are failure to clean filters on a regular basis, overloading with clothing ie: causing
poor air flow through the dryer and blocked (if you have it vented through the wall check the outside vent cover also) or kinked vent hoses which again causes poor air flow
Also note that vent hoses should not be to long the maxium should be about 8 to 9 feet as once these become to long the steam vapour produced from the drying will condense back to water before it gets to the end of the hose and can then run back into the dryer causing problems

Service Call out to Hotpoint
tumble dryer model CTDOOP not heating
Diagnose On testing tumble dryer found that drum was turning but no heat was being produced and that air flow though dryer was very poor
Repair Checked the supply voltage to the heater and thermostats which was ok, tested the continuity of the heater and thermostats and found that one thermostat was o/c (open circuit) fitted new thermostat kit (its advisable to replace the thermostats as pair), also checked the filter and found this to be in need of cleaning which can be a cause of thermostat or heater failure
Test Re-assemble dryer and check with a smal load of clothing in, heating and tumbling ok with a good air flow
